Edmonton Oilers Dominate Washington Capitals 7-2
Zach Hyman Records Hat Trick, Leon Draisaitl Scores Twice
The Edmonton Oilers extended their winning streak to five games on Tuesday night with a 7-2 victory over the Washington Capitals. Zach Hyman led the way for the Oilers with a hat trick, while Leon Draisaitl added two goals and an assist. Connor McDavid also had a three-point night with a goal and two assists.
The Oilers took control of the game early, scoring three goals in the first period. Hyman opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, and Draisaitl made it 2-0 about seven minutes later. McDavid then gave the Oilers a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal late in the period.
The Capitals got on the board early in the second period when Conor Sheary scored a power-play goal. But the Oilers quickly regained their three-goal lead when Hyman scored his second goal of the night about two minutes later. Draisaitl then made it 5-1 with a goal late in the second period.
The Capitals made it 5-2 early in the third period when Anthony Mantha scored a power-play goal. But the Oilers put the game away with two empty-net goals in the final minutes, one by Hyman and one by McDavid.
The Oilers have now won five straight games and are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games. They are currently in second place in the Pacific Division, two points behind the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Capitals have lost four of their last five games and are 5-4-1 in their last 10 games. They are currently in third place in the Metropolitan Division, one point behind the New York Rangers.
