2024 MLB Home Run Derby results: Teoscar Hernández beats Bobby Witt Jr. plus team firsts, low scores
This year's field was not only star-studded but also featured an intriguing mix of young superstars and veteran sluggers
The 2024 T-Mobile Home Run Derby was held at Globe Life Field on Monday, July 10th, 2024, and was won by Teoscar Hernandez of the Toronto Blue Jays. Hernandez defeated Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals in the final round, 27-26.
The field this year was one of the most talented in recent memory, featuring some of the biggest names in baseball. In addition to Hernandez and Witt Jr., the field included Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves, Juan Soto of the Washington Nationals, Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers, Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners.
Strong showings and disappointments
Hernandez was the surprise winner of the Derby, as he was not one of the favorites coming into the event. However, he put on a show for the fans, hitting a total of 91 home runs in the three rounds of competition. Witt Jr. was also impressive, hitting a total of 86 home runs.
Some of the other big names in the field did not fare as well. Acuña Jr. was eliminated in the first round after hitting just 22 home runs. Soto was eliminated in the second round after hitting 43 home runs. Seager was eliminated in the second round after hitting 41 home runs. Schwarber was eliminated in the second round after hitting 39 home runs. Rodriguez was eliminated in the first round after hitting just 19 home runs.
